Beginner Hour

We all have to start somewhere

Don't lose the fun....

Whether you are an absolute beginner, been playing for a bit or an accomplished virtuoso, there's nothing quite like joining in the fun with other ukulele enthusiasts.

Books and YouTube are all very well, but nothing will replace a bit of help and advice from an experienced player. "Have you tried it like this?", "That looks awkward, how about moving your hand here?".  And.... you can ask questions, and it's free.

First Tuesday in every Month

Always keen to try something new, we have updated our "Ukulele Workshop" concept  to start a little bit later at 7pm and be incorporated into a new "Beginner Hour" on the first Tuesday of the month.

So, how does it work?

Our Beginner Hour will run on an informal basis in the upstairs function room at the Bowman from 7:00 - 8:00pm on the first Tuesday of every month for a few months trial period starting April 2023. The first few minutes will be used to chat, tune and set up the ukuleles followed by learning and playing some easy tunes along with some of our more experienced group members. If you wish you can stay, join in, simply watch the main group music session from 8-9pm..... or whatever. All are welcome, no need to book, just turn up.

As an extra benefit, we'll generally have a variety of ukulele sizes to try soprano, concert, tenor, baritone with low and high G tunings if you want to try some alternatives. If you don't know what any of this means, come along and find out.

Not necessary, but might help

It's appreciated that not everyone can commit to a formal lesson plan, and most generally pick up bits and pieces of tuition from a variety of sources. We have therefore created a series of beginner notes aimed at the beginner to work through in the comfort of their own home. There are videos as well. Working at your own pace. The great thing about belonging to a Ukulele Group, is that you can come along to any session, ask questions, seek advice or demonstrations... can't do that on YouTube!!!!

You'll be sure of a warm welcome

If it sounds right, it is right…
